Here is a bit of background on me ... I have worked on iSeries or AS/400... I have extensive coding experience in all aspects of RPG programming on many platforms - on the System 38, System 36 and the AS/400 iSeries.
I started at a Hospital (Brooklyn Jewish Hospital combined with St. John's Hospital) they combined business entities to form Interfaith Hospital systems.
My initial experience at Interfaith Hospital was on System 38 and in the I.T. Director's absence (due to a minor Heart Attack) I ran the I.T. department insuring that Payroll for 3,000 employees, hospital staff, doctors and administrators, was successfully run by myself during his 3 month absence.
Interfaith hospital is located in a high crime area and I sought work in a better area. So after 2 years there in Brooklyn ( Bedford Stuyvesant area) I then went to Kimco - a leasing company of large shopping centers nationwide located in Roslyn NY, and programmed on a System 36 for about a year. I enjoyed the office there and got along very well with my coworkers and the IT director, but wanted to get back to the system 38 or if possible the newer developed As/400. I was then offered to work on the AS/400 very early in the As/400 existence. That was at a British based company at a New York office. The company was called Colourall - they manufactured paints and linoleum and wallpaper products. They went back to England, unable to compete here with Home Depot and other textile manufacturers here in the states. I did extensive coding there on the AS400 in all forms of RPG and CL programming code.
While still there at Coloural, I received a call from Saint Francis Hospital (Heart transplant center ) to come work for them. It was a direct call from the CIO. I was hired by the CIO without involvement of Human Resources and in a funny situation, I then had to do an HR interview after I had already started and had been in the payroll system for almost 2 weeks.... The CIO (Dave D'Auria) was so intent on hiring me - he did so without HR involvement!
At Saint Francis Hospital I went from Programmer Analyst on the multiple As/400 environment and became Senior Analyst and then Manager of Application development. I was there for almost a decade and was promoted to Manager of Application Development in the end of my 4th year there and continued as Manager of a team of 6 programmers for 5 years.
While holding my full time day position at Saint Francis Hospital I also concurrently worked as a Night School Instructor for Grumman Data Systems - with a 5 year provisional teachers license from New York State University. I taught RPG coding and programming - as well as IBM Mainframe system operations in adult education classes from 6pm - 10pm, 3 nights per week. I also worked for Henry Schein pharmaceuticals - As/400 environment .... After that I relocated to North Carolina to start my own business. Wherever I work - I give my all to achieve the most I can.
In 2015 I decided to return to college for further education, and graduated with a Network Administration and Cyber Security 2 year degree , completing it in 2017 with a 3.94 GPA.
Currently working in a consultancy basis for Alpaca Bella Fina Textiles & Fashion.
I am looking for a remote AS/400 RPG position. If the base office is in southeastern North Carolina, or even the Myrtle Beach area - that will work if hybrid - but remote full time with benefits is my preference.
Please keep me posted on anything that fits my qualifications.
I got onto the As/400 in 1988. September.
I had already worked on the Sys/38.
that Sys/38 job was in a hospital in Brooklyn NY.
The commute was 90 minute's each way.
2 hours commute EACH way if it rained.
I was offered a spot on the System 36.
Drive time was only 20-30 minutes each way.
so I transitioned to the Sys/36 .... OCL was definitely not CL programming, but I adapted to it.
then I received a call from a "head hunter" ... As/400. Not only was that position more closely related to the Sys/38, it was literally 10 minutes drive from my new apartment, no freeways necessary!
