Howdy, I've been supporting as400/iseries/ibm i shops for my entire career and have worked with programmers who worked with IBM 32, punched cards, all the way up to POWER machines. I've worked with hundreds or iseries programmers and if there is two sayings I've heard across the majority of programmers is, "the iseries is a hell of a machine" and "bare metal speeds!"
